I have put this site together, mainly from a series of quotes combined with my own commentry on a series of old texts that I came across while researching a related topic of fairies and the world of fae in old folklore.
The website is divided up into sections, each section has a fair sprinkling of quotes along with a bit of background information.
I enjoyed looking through them so much that i realised they may be some value to someone, somewhere in putting this work online, it is very much a sketchy introduction to old folklore, but there are a lot of great fun snippets here, that i think may be fun to quote off the cuff at dinner parties, or even wedding speeches and so forth.
So if I help someone get an appreciative laugh, or make someone think a bit about the world we today take for granted then my work has been worthwhile.
Of course this is also a very serious and fascinating subject, to me at least, so for those who want to dig a little deeper, they can find a list of source material on the reference page
This website is a collection of traditions, superstitions and wise sayings, prevalent in the folk lore of historic Britain.
